NNL Chairman Vows to Uphold Integrity, Ensure Only Best Teams Advance to NPFL

The Chairman of the Nigerian National League (NNL), George Aluo, has reaffirmed his board’s commitment to maintaining the integrity of the league, emphasizing that only the most deserving teams will progress to the Super Eight and ultimately gain promotion to the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL).

Speaking with confidence, Aluo stated that the current NNL leadership is focused on aligning its operations with international best practices and will not be swayed by external pressures or influences.

“We have maintained a high level of integrity since we came on board, and we are very determined to reposition the league, which is very evident in the performance of the teams we promoted last season to the NPFL,” Aluo declared. “We would continue to do our best to ensure that same is replicated this season.”

The NNL Chairman also extended his gratitude to the President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ibrahim Gusau, for his continuous support. He assured stakeholders and fans that the NNL is on course to becoming the best-managed football league in the country.

Aluo’s remarks come as the league enters a crucial phase, with teams battling for a place in the prestigious Super Eight tournament — the gateway to top-tier football in Nigeria.

Onikoko’s Lone Strike Sinks Osun United in Ilorin

Jamiu Onikoko netted the only goal of the game as Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) Ilorin FC edged Osun United 1-0 in the Nigeria National League NNL Matchday 17 encounter played at the Rashidi Yekini Mainbow George Innih Stadium, in Ilorin on Saturday Afternoon.

It was a crucial encounter with ABS Ilorin FC needed to win to stay afloat while Osun United needed the win to keep their promotion hopes alive.

The SarakiBoys went into the game the hungrier of the two sides and the early pressure paid off when Jamiu Onikoko struck in the opener from a goal-mouth scramble which proved pivotal for the Ilorin-based club.

Coach Anthony expressed his excitement following the hard-fought victory stating that it was the best game of his career. “I am the happiest person today because this game was so important. Playing a team who are second on the log aiming for promotion, it wasn’t an easy game. This would serve as one of my best games.

” I tried to psyche my boys to ensure we got the needed points, and they listened to instructions. Osun are our neighbors, and they had the advantage to intimidate us, but by the grace of God, we got the results.”

The victory takes ABS FC up the ladder to seventh on Conference B with nineteen points with a clash against Godswil Akpabio FC in Uyo to come next.
