QUARTER-FINAL HEARTBREAK FOR WIKKI TOURISTS FC.
Wikki Tourists have been eliminated from the 2025 Federation Cup at the quarter-final stage following a narrow 1-0 defeat to Ikorodu City FC played at the Bwari township stadium, Abuja on Saturday 3rd May 2025.
Despite controlling the game from the very first whistle, Wikki couldn’t find the breakthrough.
Wikki Tourists created several chances, the clearest coming early on when Imamu Bala Magaji missed a good scoring opportunity to put Wikki ahead.
Wikki’s dominance continued throughout the first half, forcing Ikorodu City to sit deep and defend in numbers.
The first 45 minutes ended goalless, with Wikki clearly on the front foot.
However, just eight minutes into the second half, a penalty was awarded to Ikorodu City which was converted taking a 1-0 lead against the run of play.
Tensions rose as both teams pushed hard and things got heated.
The referee handed out a red card to a player from each side, reducing both teams to ten men.
Wikki threw everything forward in search of an equalizer, maintaining pressure and dominating possession, but their efforts were constantly checked by the Ikorodu Ikorodu defence and some missed connections in the final third.
After five added minutes of intense attacking play, the final whistle blew, sending Ikorodu City through to the semi-finals and leaving Wikki Tourists to reflect on what might have been.
Coach Abdu Maikaba’s Reaction:
“You all saw how we played,we dominated from start to finish, but the goal just wouldn’t come.
That’s football for you. It just wasn’t our day. I’m proud of the boys, they showed great character, resilience, and determination.
Now, our full focus shifts to the remaining #NNL25 matches. We are still on a mission to secure promotion back to the Nigeria Premier Football League. We ask for continued patience, prayers, and support from our fans.”
Wikki Tourists now turn their attention to the league, determined to bounce back stronger.
