A five star performance from first choice goal keeper of Heartland,Ebele Obi ensured the Owerri “Maze Millionaires” shared the spoils Monday at the UJ Esuene Stadium, Calabar ,with homers UNICEM Rovers to consolidate their leadership in the Southern Conference of Bet9ja Nigeria National League, NNL.
The tie which ended nil,nil was the last of match day 24 in the conference.
The one point takes the Naze milloniars total earnings to 49 points after 24 matches played,while UNICEM Rovers now have 25 points from same number of matches.
The match which kicked off at about 10minutes after 4pm was tension soaked as the calabar based side came out smoking to see if they could Salvage their position in the murky waters of relegation,but the coach Ransome Madu coached Heartland stood firm to resist all pressure from UNICEM.
Ebele Obi,elder brother of Super Eagles captain John Mikel in the 12th minute made a fantastic save that would have taken the game beyound them after a counter attack that rattled the Heartland defence ,but they failed to put the ball behind Ebele who stood between them and scoring .
Inform Ebele continued his superlative showing with more saves in the 28th and 42nd minute to end the first half goaless .
The second stanza of the game was a balanced one as both sides made incursions that did not produce any goal but the Naze millinairs had two clear cut chances but was waisted by right winger Kingsley Ugwuegbu on the 56th and 78th minute to deny his side the three points at stake, the pressure continued from both sides untill full time.
Heartland will next play home in an Oriental local derby against the pet club of former Super Eagles captain Nwankwo Kanu ,Papillo FC of Owerri at the Dan Anyiam Stadium.
